The education at BJU is a good oneBrightAccounting
The education at BJU is a good one if you make it all 4 years. They truly prepared me for my field of work and I had many job offers when I graduated.

However, the "spiritual training" is simply awful. Unfortunately BJU is no longer relevant to the culture. 70 years ago --- maybe. Not now. They just want to be separate, and pride themselves in no longer being relevant. If you don't comply to there definition of a Christian and how a Christian should act then the chances are you're not a Christian.

They are constantly expelling students to keep the "purity" of the campus and student body. Purity being defined as total adherence to the rules and whole BJU system. You are encouraged (and then put in leadership)when you turn someone in for breaking a rule. Like the military you then get demerits for breaking the rules. Forgiveness and grace are substituted for punishment and consequences.

The Apostle Paul says "I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some." BJU says "I remain 'pure' and rigid and try to convert men to be like me" Of course the quote above was from the NIV which all good BJU folk know is full of translation errors and is not allowed to be used in the pulpit.20 years later and I am still embarrassed to tell people where I received my education. Don't make the same mistake.

Question
Bob Jones University made me hate Christianity.Accounting
Bob Jones University made me hate Christianity. I was more miserable there then I have ever been. It really gets to you when you are incapable of being as perfect as they demand. And they are definately not shy about telling you how awful you are if you break even slight rules.

I never graduated. And being expelled from there was the best thing that ever happened to me. They intimidated one of my (former)good friends into giving three pages of details of all the "terrible" things that I had ever done.

One of the things they encourage blatently is turning other people in. They like to purify whenever they can.

The faculty are wonderful. The administration is predatory and the student body is structered in such a way that if you follow every rule you are put in charge of other students. These "spiritual leaders" are arrogant and self rightous. They make you want to renounce Christianity if God is like what these people are. My "spiritual leader" prayer captian stuck her toungue out at me as I was being escorted of campus after being expelled. And this is not just some random girl. She was practically a celebrity on campus because her dad T. Farrell is a big time evangelist. According to BJ she was very spiritual.

My Hall leader thought she was my mother and would come to tuck us in every night.
I was told that girls who wear thongs are sluts.
I could go on and on about how this place turns people into robots who are scared of any kind of authority. But they wont tell you this. They decry conformity themselves and call it "training you up to be like Christ"I felt trapped and still do. It took me a year to convince my present public university to accept even a few of my credits. And I still shake and get sick to my stomach anytime someone mentions the place. I used to be an active Church member and now you cant force me to set foot in a church.
