Lambuth University

Great school. I love it at LU! Student LIfe has slacked in the past, but the new President Dr. R. Fred Zuker is doing amazing things I am certain that if I were to retake this when I graduate, everything would be A+

2nd Year Male -- Class 2007

Faculty Accessibility: A+, Campus Maintenance: B

It is important to mention that both Memphis and Nashville are withing driving distance. Memphis is 1 hour away and Nashville is 2 hours away. Jackson is a "small city" with a population of 100,000. If you get tired of being on campus, there are options. Being in close proximity to two great cities is another reason to consider Lambuth if one wants to get away from home.

I love the small and intimate atmosphere here. Everyone is really easy-going and relaxed as the environment is so comfortable. Over the summer, the University is adding in a Starbucks along with a total re-vamp of the student lounge area. There will be more variety regarding food options that are healthy as well as giving students more options, in general (e.g. take-out, portability...etc.).

Financial Aid can be stingy with their money at times. With that exception, other school official are nice to work with. If you want a place to grow as an individual/Get a great education: Check Lambuth out. If you want other people to tell you what to do and believe: Go to Union University or Freed Hardeman.

Campus Aesthetics: A+, Social Life: C+

I'm going to make this as simple as possible:

Positive-Excellent faculty with STRONG departments in English, Psychology, Science, Philosophy, Religion, Sociology, Fashion Merchandising...etc. The faculty is also very helpful and knows each student by name. If I can sum up a Lambuth education in 3 words: A Quality Education. Don't let the fact that it claims to be a

Christian/Methodist college turn one away, LU is FAR from oppressive. Chapel is an option and not required. The only requirement is taking 2 religion courses (part of Core classes). Unlike Union University, a student at LU is given total and complete freedom to be an individual without the religious overtones. Lambuth believes in challenging the student to think for themselves through being exposed to a wide range of ideas (part of the Liberal Arts concept).

The campus is beautiful and everything is very accessible and easy to find.
The community of students is one in which everyone can interact and really get to know one another (both in and outside of class). The faculty cares about its students and intends to challenge them to decide for themselves that which they are able to believe in.

Academically, Lambuth is underrated. With any college, its important to give it a chance and Lambuth definitely deserves at least that.

Negative: Fraternities/Sororities make up a huge part of the social life here. If one is overtly extroverted, then they will find themselves either in a sorority/fraternity or bored socially. Overall, the social life here is where the biggest improvement is needed. There are some great events that involve the entire student body but it is limited and spaced out (e.g. coffeehouse nights, the oxley issues forum...etc.)thoughout the semester. The number one complaint I hear from students: "There is nothing to do"...

The next step is for Lambuth to come up with some ways to retain its students by improving the social aspect.

The on campus security needs improvement also. There have been mutiple car break-ins and security is never around when these things occur, even though the university has hired more officers to combat the problem.

Freshman Orientation is hell....it is the worst weekend you will ever have here....once you get over the awkwardness/stressfulness of it all, then things will begin to get better. If you are overtly extroverted/dependent on a strong social life, I would not recommend Lambuth. If you are someone who is either more introverted than extroverted or has an equal balance of both traits and is willing to take a critical look at themselves in order to grow as individual, then Lambuth is the place for you. Give it a chance...
