Seattle Central College

Everything is fine, not very good. But I'd definitely recommend not to take ENGL&102 (class taken by so-called Dr. Faucette) He's a fucking-nigger asshole. He's such a psycho and a racist, and I wish his family a horrible future.

1st Year Female -- Class 2016

At this school, it is helpful to ask around about teachers or take classes from teachers that other have recommended.

If you get the idea BEFORE you can get your tuition back that a class/teacher may not be good for you, hurry!

Some teachers are better than others in huge ways.
If you are in a specialized department, chances are that the students will be serious. But at times, even in your department you will find really bad apples. Try not to work in group projects with them.

For basic math, English, humanities, and such that are required of a two year transfer degree the students may seem to be very misguided, unmotivated, and wasting their tuition money and time. Don't let them waste yours. There's a very large cross section to students here; young high school/running start, fresh out of high school, international students, and adults getting a new degree and working.

2nd Year Female -- Class 2010

I chose SCCC due to family reasons--I take care of a disabled famly member and was unable to travel far from home. Overall the college is good to very good.

However, students should be aware that almost every quarter required classes, for business program, get dropped due to low student sign-up. This resulted in it taking 3 yrs to finish a 2 yr A.A.S degree. I heard some complaints about some other programs as well, so plan ahead and have a back up for any class incase something gets dropped.

The faculty are by and large friendly and helpful. Only one teacher was vague about assignments and expectations to the point of distraction, but thankfully now she is not the only choice for those classes. Most teachers are good about being available during office hours, and some even during non-office hours if you ask. Many of them use e-mail regularly so you can reach them even in the evenings.

For the business program the courses weren't particularly difficult. If you showed up to classes, actually opened your text book once a week, and did the assignments it is a breeze. Some students constantly don't do the above and then complain that things like quizes are unfair. But hey when a teacher says, "We will have a test on friday on chapter 3..." read or at least skim chapter 3. Many do not and then want special consideration. If you are even basically prepared nothing in the course should be challanging.

Seattle Central is located in the Capital neighborhood, with Downtown Seattle just a short walk or bus ride away. It is on Braodway, which has many stores and food places, and several bars/clubs in the area--walking distance. If you like urban living and all that brings it is a nice place. The University District, with the U of Washington, is just a bus ride away and has more shopping, etc.

There are lots of clubs and organizations on campus and are great ways to build a network of friends. Understand, Seattle is a very polite place, but not always friendly. This means people here will be polite but they might not be inclusive. Seattlites tend to hang with people they have known for a long time and it can be isolating to always be odd man out. I've been here 11 yrs and have acquantencies, but friends are not from here. So joining a club/organization helps meet new people with similar interests and open up social circles.

There is alot of oppertunity at Seattle Central if you apply yourself and tap into the resources. I recommend taking a class from Nada Oakley (English) or Mr. al-Madani(Anthropology) if you want to be challanged, and Traci Lai actually makes history fun. Mr. Natoli (Business) is very good and helpful.
