Whatcom Community College

If you are reading this, prepared to be read a lot, hopefully useful information though. I transferred to Whatcom Community College in the Fall of 2018 for only a couple of quarters. I lived in an apartment through the school called Belleau Woods. $675/Month. Anyway, the bus system is great, just have your Orca Card with you. Bellingham, well... To be honest, there are some weird people, gotta tell yah. However, there are many things to do. A Fred Meyer was a 5 minute walk from my apartment by the way. Time to talk about the school itself. At first the campus seemed so large, because I went to a high school of less than 300 students. There is a whole building dedicated to Cyber Security and a bunch of buildings for nursing though those buildings are much further away. There are a lot of international students at Whatcom, mostly from Asia. The students are super friendly. Anyway, my first quarter I took, well what did I take? Japanese. Modern Dance. Child Development. Anthropology 101. Let's start with Japanese. I highly suggest that you do not take that class. There is a language barrier which makes everything confusing to understand. Everyone struggled except for those three students. Fast paced, hard grader, and well just extremely hard even if you put hours and hours of studying. Modern dance was good, just dont skip more than 3 classes or attendance starts to matter to your grade. Child development. Easy class except when it comes to the observation assignments. You gotta observe kids at other schools and let me tell yah, scheduling an appointment is a pain. A pain! But, next to Anth 101. I really enjoyed that class. My table complained how hard it was, but really folks, just do the assignments. Put some effort into them. If you are good at writing and following instructions, you'll be fine. It's not the best outlined class but it's interesting. I would suggest to going to the student conferences. I thought I would hate it, but that's how I opened up a little more and met new friends. There are not a whole ton of clubs but some. There is a small cafe that is opened at 8 til 2 next to the bookstore. The library is really nice as well as the gym. Next quarter. Astronomy 101. You don't learn, but everyone gets an A. Take home quizzes and final. Attendance doesnt matter. But, my table group, well I had a great table group. The best in all my years of school. Biology 101 with Nicole Coleman. I am terrible at science and math. Terrible. I got an A-. Was so surprised. I usually get C's. She has Powerpoints and some multiple choice questions within them. Study study and there is extra credit. Great class. Intro to Communications with Tony Will. Repetation might as well be his middle name. Easy. Funny. Boring. Class. The advisors... Is it me or do most advisors do not do their job well? Double check all their decisions. Don't trust them entirely. Whatcom community college is great, try to be involved but most people just go to class, go home or hangout at the libray or gym afterwards. Students do care about their academics by the way. It's a good college, a good place to get your AA like I did and then transfer to an university.
