Super Brilliant
Shepherd University and Shepherdstown are filled with the strangest people you will ever meet. I was there for 5 years and that's mainly what stuck with me. I don't know if you like characters, but I do. I'm pretty sure that's the only reason I didn't transfer.

Academically, it's a mixed bag. There are some excellent professors there, especially in the psychology department. The Honors program comes up with some creative courses. You will get plenty of individualized attention in your classes though. People make friends with professors all the time.

But overall you won't be challenged much here. What you learn is going to be more or less useless to you in the work world. Especially if you're a nursing major, because they've threatened to revoke Shepherd's nursing program at least twice.

Shepherdstown has a couple of bars, and nearby Martinsburg has a bunch of strip clubs. Shepherdstown doesn't have many students around in the summer, but if you know some of the townies it can be pretty nice. The shops in town are unique, and aesthetically it would be hard to find a prettier campus. Shepherdstown has a lot of old brick and stone houses, and won't let the college destroy the old-town feel.

It's about as easy to make friends at Shepherd as at any other college. Like I said, the people are nuts though. I'm not one to make sweeping judgments like that, but in this case it's warranted. Program Board tries to organize events to make students feel welcome, and there are a few Greek organizations. But I think the dorms are really the best place to make friends.

Overall, I think I would have chosen a better college if I had it to do over again. But the experience was character-building.

Bright
I transferred there from a Community College because they had a great reputation for their Music Program. I had to drop out because the environment just ruined me. I became extremely depressed. The environment is toxic and the campus seems to be out of touch with the real world. Shepherdstown is in the middle of no where. You do meet some nice people but I felt extremely alone when I was there. Sure it probably could have been a part of my own fault for feeling depressed and alone, but I did try to reach out for help as far as counseling, but the Lady just didn't seem to retain our sessions together. She kept giving me the same advice not remembering that she said the same thing last week, and became quick to jump to medication.

I just needed to get out. I'm glad I did.Like that one review said, the school has sooo much potential but the students there make it toxic and unbearable.

Not so bright
ITS A DUMP! please dont come here do your self a favor go to a community college instead. the girl who said there is no night life is correct. There is nothing to do. and yes most are nice but let me tell you i have crossed some of the most difficult people i have ever met. AS for professors i got screamed at a teacher so bad i had to go to the dean and report it! like seriously everyone here hates it no one likes it! 67 percent return after freshmen year and even more leave after there secound year here. The sad thing is the school has sooo much potiental to be great but the students negative vibe has driven me to never want to come back again!
