Major: Political Science (This Major's Salary over time)
My major is actually a double in Politican Science and Arabic. BYU is not the school for everyone. However, the stereotypes about the student body not being diverse and closeminded is nothing more than a stereotype. Almost 90% of students speak at least one foreign language. Probably 25% of students are foreign born. The culture is unique and diverse to say the least. There is so much to learn from the art gallery and the free concerts, to the devotionals and forums offered every Tuesday and randomly by other groups on campus. Getting involved is easy and encouraged. The night life of Provo does pretty much end at or before midnight; however, Salt Lake City is only 40 minutes away with a nightlife reaching into the wee hours of the morning. Classes are tough, but we all knew that. (I survived Econ 110 AND Poli Sci 220!!) Religion classes are of course biased for the most part, but it is a religious school. However, for the non-mormon, less biased courses are offered. There are no breaks…that includes no spring break for the partiers…but 4 semesters are offered. Campus is beautiful and kept that way. Pranks including bubbles in the main fountains and dressing up the many statues around campus are cleaned up promptly without a lot of acknowledgement of the occurance.

If you are going to school for any reason other than to become educated, you will not enjoy BYU. Everything on campus is focused toward the developing character, culture, and intelligence of the students. If you are going to school to party and to have fun…you will not find it hear. Students know how to have a good time, but won't until the weekend…and even then it ends at or before 1am at the latest. The semesters are rigourous mostly because they have no breaks to catch up in…but the summer is longer. Families and marriage are important. If you have commitment issues, you will freak out at BYU because you will meet more than one person that will be engage days, weeks, after meeting one another. Months is average. A year is never heard of.

I love it here. And yes…after 2 years…starting on my 3rd…I am still single!
