Major: Other (This Major's Salary over time)
When looking for a right fit for a college, it is essential that you go and visit. Spend a weekend there. Eat the food. Go to a classes in your chosen major. Don't just take the advice from the clean-cut student tour guide. Talk to real students.I was pleased with the educational value at Johnson and Wales University. I was a Travel and Tourism Major. The professors were very knowledgable and professional. They were very approachable and for the most part I felt that they cared for me as more than just a random student. The internship program was outstanding. I was able to sample a variety of different travel careers. In terms of the educational environment of the school I have only one negative thing to say. When it came time for the big job searches I felt that it was a highly competitive enviroment. I experienced several unethical practices from fellow classmates. I understand that the job market is very competitive, yet I felt that things were on the cut-throat side.I was not pleased with the safety of the campus. The campus is downtown Providence. Walking from the computer lab to my dorm I was followed several times by homeless people. A few times they became very agressive. I do believe there is a service that you can call and they will esort you at night back to you dorm. The biggest disapointment was dorm life. For the most part the dorms were clean and in good order. For me, the biggest problem was one of my roommates. She was a heavy drug users. It was very difficult for me to watch her abuse herself. I didn't feel that there was any place for me to go for help. Drugs and Alcohol are a very large part of the dorm life. The opportunities for extracurricular activities were many and for a variety of interests. The community service office was extremly helpful to me. The campus chaplain was very nice. The opportunity for relgious practice was of above average for a non-religous school.Overall my educational experience at Johnson and Wales was very good.In my experience, the classes will prepare you for the professional world. You will be able to connect with professionals in your chosen career. My only concerns about Johnson and Wales are the resident life and safety issues.
