St. Olaf College was a wonderfully nurturing community for me. It gave me an excellent liberal arts education that has prepared me well for a career in medicine, yet provided me with diverse interests and lifelong friendships that continue to enrich my life.

The faculty are uniformly superb, caring, and approachable, I still correspond and occasionally meet with several of them. There isn't a more beautiful campus in the country (except maybe William and Mary), and the cultural opportunities on campus and in the nearby Twin Cities are spectacular. The opportunity to participate in world-class musical and fine art organizations is a definite privilege, as is the ease of international study facilitated by well-oiled travel/study programs. While not a party-hardy environment (like the one I work in now!), one can find ample stimulation, and in fact, the quieter domain of the campus makes academic work and campus living much more pleasant. Before in the stone ages while I was there, there weren't adequate gym facilities but they have rectified this with a state of the art rec. center.

While clearly not for everyone (ie, extreme party-ers, overly pious folk, or NCAA Div. 1 class atheletes), St. Olaf would be a fantastic environment to prepare for the broader challenges of life beyond college.
