Major: Math (This Major's Salary over time)
It is true, this University is very expensive, but if you are looking for individual attention from professors, you can definitely receive it here. Many professors that I have had give students their home telephone numbers. I have had several professors willing to spend extra time with me when i needed help. In larger universities, professors just don't have the time to help individual students. Schreiner also offers Learning Support Services, geared to help students with different disabilities. This service works with peer students, who take notes and deliver them to the office for those students enrolled in the program. The peer students who take notes get paid to do so. I would suggest to watch the course rotation and plan your degree carefully, because every course is not offered every semester. Another thing to watch for are the Interdisciplinary Studies courses. These include: Freshman Seminar, Critical Thinking, Global Issues, and the Aesthetic Experience. They are required for graduation at Schreiner, but if you are planning to transfer, it is possible that these credits will not transfer. Keep up with the financial aid department. Inquire on the status of loan check disbursement. One year loan checks were 2 weeks late, which put many of us in financial binds. The English Department rocks, and the math department is extremely helpful. There is free peer tutoring, and the students who tutor are very helpful also. The faculty in general is awesome. They work very hard to provide a good education for students and help them through their four years. However, they are paid VERY low. I feel that Schreiner is mismanaging its money. They have expanded the campus greatly by adding a building dedicated to art and computer science, as well as revamping the math and science building. BUT they still fail to raise the faculty's wages. One would think that a phD ought to bring in some pretty good income for the professors, but not here. Sad actually, because many of the faculty are very dedicated.
