you should definitely visit sarah lawrence before you go. i went there before i had ever experienced it, and that was a big mistake. the student body is tiny, the campus is tiny, the surrounding town is tiny… if you want any excitement or diversity, you have to travel into new york city!! most of the students are extremely artsy or obsessed with music or into activism, especially feminism/gay rights. (of course i am all for those things, i'm just not a vehement activist.) you might have a hard time connecting with the majority of students if you don't fit in any of those categories. i found the classes at sarah lawrence to be interesting yet kind of pointless. i learned about a wide variety of stuff, but not things that i really need to apply to my future career or life in general. most of the time i felt like i was spending a ton of money to be in a really fancy book club or something. practical, matter-of-fact people will get irritated with how touchy-feely these classes are. overall i find this school to be really claustrophobic, which is why i am transferring. in conclusion: VISIT BEFORE YOU GO! think about how you want to apply your education to your future career in the real world!
