If you are white, born and raised in Kentucky, and have you're whole high school going with you to college than this is the school for you! However if you're out of state Especially from the east coast I would strongly consider picking a different school. The University of Kentucky is basically just a waste of money, although it is rather cheep it's really not worth it. The social scene if horrid and a good number of students go home on the weekend. It is very awkward to attend a party if you do not have all you're friends at college with you and have only made, say a good 15-20 friends because the other 50 people at the party have known each other their whole lives and just pay attention to themselves. Forget having any form of life if you're not in a frat or sorority. I personally joined a sorority and hated it because my whole pledge class already knew each other and it was not for me. The sorority girls are very much into the southern bell stereotype and it scares me a bit. I do not think I will ever be or want to be a southern bell. Boys will be pushed away if they try to attend a frat party and are not in a frat. The students at this school are very close- minded and not always willing to make friends. I would say more than 90% of the students are from Kentucky and have all of their highschool friends or most of their highschool with them. Because they have friends they are not always as willing to make new friends. And are not always accepting when an outsider tries to talk to them. Lexington is an extremely small "city" and to be honest I have no idea why it is even considered a city. The students at UK do not realize that there is a world outside of Kentucky and for some reason feel that Kentucky is it. They do not realize how different the rest of the world is and I personally found when trying to talk to people about where I am from they either did not believe me or just did not really care. The only minorities that I have come into contact with are not the brightest of students but were recruited for sports. The school's main concern are their sports teams including the teams that aren't very good. Yes Kentucky has a very good basketball team but I personally would not know a player if they hit me in the head. Most of the students at UK do not understand that the rest of the world does not care about UK and really do not know much about their sports. (When I first told my friends from home I was going to UK they asked me why I was going to the United Kingdom!) There is one positive thing about UK and that is the classes are easy. If you are not the worlds greatest student you will most likely do very well here. If you live in The towers that is another good thing because that is where most of the people are. However, the rooms are very tiny and really do not provide extra room to do much. They are way to small for two people. In conclusion this school is bascially just meant for kids from Kentucky, if you go to this school and are an out of stater..especially from the east coast i wish you the best of luck. But always have a back-up school tucked away in the back of you're mind.

questionI'm a junior in high school from Pennsylvania. I am a bit concerned about your comment warning students from the east coast wanting to attend this school.. Are there students from the east coast that have succeeded in fitting into this college?
