UM is a school that is a contradiction. It attracts some of the brightest students in the nation, but it also has some of the most intellectually apathetic people in the country. It prides itself on being a diverse school, but it basically pushes a Latin American policy down the throats of the students. I am a liberal and all, but this propanganda is very annoying. Other countries and cultures are ignored, because they are not in the Carribean or South America..The school has great student activities, but you have to be in the Greek system to be a part of most of them. Now don't get me wrong, some of the members of the Greek community are great, but the majority are snobbish, shallow and very ignorant of varying cultures. Oh and guys, if you are not a football player, or a filthy rich moron, you won't be getting any action, unless you go off campus. It's not because all UM females are shallow, it's because 99.9% percent are. Try splitting all the left over girls amongst the non-rich, non-football guys.It's almost impossible. I love the professors I have and the friends I have made here are great, but sometimes the superficiality and ignorance of the student body can basically make you want to lock yourself in your room. Hopefully, the administration will try to make improvements to the makeup of the student body, but we all know that won't happen. That won't happen because the school admits students based upon either athletic ability or the ability to pay full tuition. I only wish they admitted students like me and my friends, students that actually are here for the education, students that actually care about the world around them, and not just about how much their new Prada bag cost.
