Hey, I'm a junior thinking about applying to Howard but a lot of the comments about the students there have me somewhat nervous. I live in Brooklyn, NY and I'm pretty used to the fashion show atmosphere of many black high schools, but I had thought college students would be a little more mature and concerned with school work. Sorry, its takin so long for me to get to the point, but can you tell me a little more about the atmosphere there? Aside from the fashion scene, were the students generally friendly and accepting OR did everyone seem to have their own clique like in hs? Did you feel welcome as a freshman or was it difficult to make friends? Also could you tell me more about the dorms( I've heard they're really bad) and the food. Thanks for your time.. |
Yeah, tell me more about Howard. I'm a sophmore in High School and I've been looking at it for a while now. …All I've heard are bad things. Could it all be true? …I mean, seriously. |
A lot of my colleagues were recommending this printing center when I was still starting in the field. I was really surprised by their expertise in both digital and offset printing services. Not only that, they also use a wide variety of high-quality papers. https://www.digitekprinting.com/ out this link to see more about their services. |
Major: Art & Design Department (This Major's Salary over time)
Students here are very high fashion, high maintenance, uppity, and hold their heads up high and down to the ground at the same time. Some students are here for an education while others are here for a fashion show/popularity contest. It is kind of like my high school. Most students come from privileged backgrounds and suburbia and believe everyone that does not speak, act, or dress like them are hoods. Money does not seem to be a big thing when it comes to material things for many students. There is a lot of joans and other talk to put people down that are considered hoods or poor. It is a culmination of upper black society while mixing with the ideas of being hood rich in my opinion. Although Howard is in uptown, northwest DC, there seems to be no connection at all with the city among students and others in the Howard community. However, this seems to be the case with other HBCU’s from what some of my friends have experienced. There is some school spirit on campus, mainly around homecoming, but it could be a lot better seeing students from other universities around the city support their schools more. Education wise, HU offers some good and some really bad programs and professors, sometimes it is the luck of the draw. There is a lot of crime around campus; however, DC offers students a lot to do and U street is not too far away and the metro is only a few blocks from campus. HU is ok, but could be a lot better, just make sure you bring lots of cash because DC is really expensive.
