Governors State is a great option for community college graduates, working adults, those with limited financial resources…or those with abundant financial resources who wish to remain that way!My first year here at GSU has been a positive experience. I have liked all of my instructors so far. I am learning a great deal in my classes, but I won't pretend it is as academically rigorous as the Ivy League. I have taken online and evening classes here, which are very convenient for me.Since there is no on-campus housing, all students commute, so the "social scene" cannot be compared with more traditional universities. In general, students are serious about their education and are here because they want to be, not because "mommy and daddy" want it. Students looking for keg parties need not apply. There are limited extra-curricular and co-curricular activites, but I cannot personally attest to how many students actively take part. All in all, GSU is a quality institution at a great value, and I feel lucky that we in the Chicago southland have this wonderful resource.
