I thought coming back here after years offJul 29 2017Social Work
I thought coming back here after years off was the best, but I certainly see that was a bad choice. After I obtained my BA, I decided to enroll in the Master of Social Work program. The faculty doesn't care about students and you must do your own "leg work". I have had numerous run ins with the faculty about my classes and grades, only to be told "you don't have to worry". I say "stay far away from this school and call the department of education to check your student loans. "

School advertises online, evening, and convenient scheduling. Take your money and then have terrible scheduling both day and evening classes, no working person could complete this program

They don't offer any classes you need. Everyones' graduation keeps getting delayed. You get what you pay for. This place sucks I hate it with a burning passion.
Question
Governors State University needsMay 06 2012Political Science
Governors State University needs to improve its friendship between faculty and student body. Overall if you take advantage of all the resources given, you will succeed in your field. There is a lot of "school politics", but overall enjoy my time at GSU.

Question
I used to enjoyApr 27 2006Art & Design Department
I used to enjoy the place when I could talk to others in the major and hang out.Being a commuter school, there is nothing to do here in the building except read the papers and drink coffee. The teachers have mostly gone to hell now with their secret politics.
Question
Governors State is a communter's universitySep 08 2005Psychology
Governors State is a communter's university. I consider it a blessing that I was fortunate enough to live only 20 minutes away from the campus. It is a very affordable university with helpful students and faculty. I feel that I have learned a great deal from the school and I am confident in my future endeavors.
Question
Compared to the laughable requirements for all mySep 08 2005Political Science
Compared to the laughable requirements for all my classes (other students could not write proper sentences much less whole papers), my thesis has turned into a horrible nightmare of unexpected expectations. Worse still, I am not sure exactly what these expectations are - I have petitioned to graduate twice now (and paid twice!) and had to turn down a teaching offer because my thesis is still not "quality" enough. Define quality. Please! Also, I have heard horror storied about unqualified instructors being hired over qualified applicants because those hired were friends with the administration. There are also other unfair acts that have taken place within the administration that has resulted in lawsuits over freedom (or lack thereof) of speech. Be careful!
Question
I know GSU better than a lot sinceAug 16 2005Communications
I know GSU better than a lot since I have been in and out of that school completing programs and not graduating. I am graduating this time! I can truly comment that it is not perfect but it is a great school with reasonable tuition making it accessible to a wide variety of people. It is a fortress in a corn field lending the school a special place on this earth as a unique place of learning. Most of the faculty is nice and many of them are helpful. We do have som arrogant professors but most of them are gone. If you try, you can get that family feeling at GSU, and there is nothing better than that! What a way to learn!
