If you are black and not a football or basketball player please do not consider this school. The most racist close minded village disapponted cow boys and girls are in this school. Material things are important here. Lots of gay and lesbians in disguise. Useless University in my opinion. It is all about money. Police is often called on students. Manhattan courts use crime as an income earner. Small town syndrome has caught up with the University. Do not get into fight with any faculty member. They are all Kansans and posibly related. If you are white racist close minded person then go to Kansas State University if not forget it. They are still living Brown vs Board of Education. This place is evil and not good for diversity. Please do not consider this University if you value civil rights.

This student claims that she is "quite bright", but doesn't seem to have the ability to utilize basic English skills. Sentences such as "Police is often called on students" and "Lots of gay and lesbians in disguise" display a shameful lack of communication skills. Thus I find it utterly unbelieveable that these are the thoughts of an actually "quite bright" fourth year student. Rather they seem to be the foolish ravings of a quite angry and dimwitted racist student who labels the university as "racist close minded village disapponted (sic) cow boys (sic) and girls are in this school.

It seems that this person had a few bad experiences and has judged the city and the school way too harshly. The school has over 1000 international students each semester. The student body, though predominately white, this is the middle of Kansas after all, is more diverse than this person seems to think and black students don't just play sports. Plus with the military base 20 minutes away we have plenty of new families in the city that are not from Kansas. As for the "Lots of gay and lesbians in disguise" comment the city and college overall are supportive to that way of life. Though conservative, even the local highschool, as well as KSU, have GSA Chapters.(Gay-Straight Alliance) and K-State sponsors a PRIDE Prom every year. In my opinion the reviewer was being the very thing they accused the school and city of being "racist" and "close minded". Plus living Brown Vs. Topeka Board of Education would be a good thing since that would mean we DO NOT support separate but equal. Brown V Board means integration not separation. Sometimes people forget that decision was made in Topeka, KS, Our capital.

I agree with the first two comments. This person has obviously had a bad experience and blamed it on everyone the could. K-State is as diverse as Kansas can get, and I find that racism happends everywhere.

Secondly I have never had a problem with the police, been at the center of a racist comment, or been mobbed by gays/lesbians. This school has a lot of things going for it and I don't think that your false statement gives it the prestige it deserves.

I am a criminal defense attorney, in practice for over sixteen years, and I have defended several K-State students who were charged with minor offenses. I am also a former K-State student. The original poster's claim that

is absolutely accurate. Fines issued by the judge—who is, incidentally, a city employee—are two to four times higher than fines issued in other Kansas courts for similar offenses. My experience is that students do not get a fair trial in the municipal court. Retrial at the district court level is almost always needed to obtain a reasonable outcome.

Several years ago, the city of Manhattan passed an ordinance that allows the city to recoup the cost of prosecution. And that's in addition to charging the highest court costs in the state.

Furthermore, the claims that are often made about a "great relationship between the students and the townspeople" are accurate—but only because Manhattan would become a low-income, military town without the students.

It would be more helpful if you gave a descriptive account for us to judge how we'd feel in your shoes. Also, you'd be taken more seriously if you avoided exaggerating/generalizing. There are disgusting AND good people anywhere. You may feel frustrated but try to just share the facts.

Agree with you, I am international student, this place is only good for white, had very bad experience with these racists people in campus.
