Do not fall for the "Hard Sell" This school shoots out so many lines but is really none of these things. There is no diversity other than skin color which they make such an effort to emphasize. I would never attend this school again and I think anyone considering it should really think it through. Basically you are taught to eat up the self-promotion. Everyone says that they are great, so smart, the school is great, professors are great, everyone will change the world, yadda yada. Don't fall for it. You will be taugh a rigid way of thinking rather than to think for yourself. This is an unhealthy, isolated environment.

Not everyone is the genius that they think. They are simply hard workers. Most people including me couldn't get into other schools so we came here because they constantly say how great and respected and fabulous they are. They aren't. I went to a state school and transferred in. The classes were a lot tougher there than the spoon fed courses at MH. At the state school you were responsible for yourself, you were independent and not everyone graduated with honors, in fact there are a series of grades A, B, C, D and professors gave them out according to the work. Unheard of at MH, everyone gets A's on everything. No men means no diversity like in the real world. Many of the students and staff are Arrogant and Elitist. These students don't even realize it. They also believe this is one of the best schools in the world. Go anywhere outside of New England and no one has ever heard of it. There is a high price for tuition, the lack of social life, and becomming a drone. I am a lesbian but I do think that there is a certain tone and group mentality depending on orientation. If there were men there would be real diversity.

Another issue I noticed on some other posts was that many people play "gay/bisexual" while at MHC then go into the real world as a heterosexual. Is there not something wrong with an environment that makes so many young woman lie to themselves and others and deny who they really are? This is just my opinion, but really think before you go.

Responses
responseThere were some odd comments in your review. First, not everyone is a genius, but they just work hard. Is that an issue for you? Second, while I did not attend MHC, I know many who have, and in all my discussions with those people, and from all other anecdotal evidence, the idea that it's an easy place to score As seems made-up. Sorry, nobody ever says that. Finally, while you're right that MHC doesn't have the same name recognition as, say, Wellesley, that's hardly a knock against MHC. Be aware that there are a lot of great schools that many people have not heard of that are nonetheless great schools that people who know education know about. MHC has a great rep in Seattle, where there is a very highly educated population. Has my stupid uncle ever heard of it? No. He also thinks Wake Forest is just a basketball school. Who cares what those people think?
