I was admitted to the honors program here at Iona in Fall06. Generally, my classes have been good, although sometimes I feel like professors don't care enough about what they are teaching. The honors professors do seem to be "a step above" the other professors, but still, they tend to appear semi-interested.

The social life revolves around drinking. I don't enjoy the whole get-drunk-as-fast-and-as-much-as-you-can scene, and sadly that's how it usually goes here. I had hoped the honors kids would have been a bit more focused on work, but hey, it is college and people can do what they want. Unfortunately for me, it left me with very few people to hang out with at night (drinking usually occurs here thurs-sat nights). There have been numerous trips to the hospital for drinking recently, yet nothing seems to change. I had to clean up after my roommate one night… let't not get into it.

Overall, I get the feeling that Iona is more of a community college. Commuters still make up more than half the population, but more and more students are living on campus. I'm transferring to Binghamton next year… I think I'll get more out of my education there than at Iona; the quality of the programs just seem to be lacking here.

One last point (sorry about the length): I don't know how some of the honors students got into the program. Not to be mean at all, but I don't see how they were let in. Poor grades over and over should be an indication that the person shouldn't be taking honors classes. I wish they were a bit more strict with the admissions.
