To put it simply, SUNY Albany is a shit hole. It's getting worse by the year, just look on princetonreview (selectivity 85 last year to 78 this year) and usnews (tier 3). The student body is made up largely of long islanders and jewish people, surprisingly not too many upstaters. Many students don't seem like they even belong in college, more like high school drop-outs. Social life is getting your ID chalked and going downtown to the bars and drinking, that's it -it gets old fast. Opportunities to get involved are available, but doing so really won't alleviate the dismal environment that is SUNY Albany. Some of the academic programs here are good (criminal justice, poli-sci etc.). My advice is to try and get accepted to Geneseo or Binghamton -the two top SUNY's. Spending 4 years at SUNY Albany is a waste, I myself am transferring out. Don't come here, it's not worth it. The state should probably turn this place into a community college in 10 or 20 years, that's how shitty it is.
