Sitting through a class at SFCC is like crawling through an open sewer. People never interact with each other in any way…with the possible exception of reforming the worst elements of middle school social cliques. Students are closed minded and judgemental; mostly rich kids who partied too much in high school and couldn't make the cut for a real state school. Everyone is bitter and broken and the professors exacerbate this situation by hammering students with their political and social dogma. The people I went to high school with call this school "13th grade," which is probably the most appropriate title. Nothing about it will challenge or intrigue you. Its high school redux with slightly more access to drugs and alcohol off campus. Also, forget about getting your "2 year" degree in two years. Its literally impossible because UF and FSU change their admission criteria for transfers every year. This is a clever tactic because it keeps out most of the community college students who they think are going to choke out better performing freshman admits. Its not uncommon for students here to spend 5 years on their AA because of the constantly shifting requirements for transfer. One last piece of advice here: Do not offer opinions, thoughts, or perspectives in class. People aren't there to have debates and learn. They just want to make the grade and go back to their minimum wage job. Approach class as just another job and you MIGHT avoid becoming a dropout…which would put you in the minority because this school has over a 50% attrition (dropout) rate. Good luck.
