Berklee is a great school. Period. However, as is the case with most young universities/colleges, they previously had a large rate of acceptance, but have recently capped enrollment and DRAMATICALLY lowered the rate of acceptance (now at 30%). As a result, there are some students here who really shouldn't be, but they will either drop out or squeak by graduation and most likely work in unrelated professions. I have already noticed a strong difference in the abilities and professionalism of the newer entering classes.

That being said, you must really examine why you want to come to Berklee. If you think you are applying to

Rockstar University,
and that by coming here you will somehow automatically place yourself on a fast track to pop-stardom, then please save yourself the application fee and use it for something else. However, if you have a deep and unrelenting desire to understand music down to the smallest detail and learn how to make a REAL career out of that understanding - then Berklee might be just the place for you.

I knew I wanted to major in music business, but I didn't know just where I would do it. I sent out several applications and was accepted at some very big, prestigious, and high ranked "brand name" schools, but after examining and comparing all the curriculums I concluded that Berklee's is the BEST in the entire United States. Furthermore, the curriculum is constantly under review and updated to stay relevant to the constantly changing industry. The faculty in the department are beyond knowledgable and are all extremely accomplished professionals with decades of industry experience; and what's more is that all of them I have encountered are incredibly pleasant, caring, and outgoing mentors with a genuine interest in their students success. If you really work hard, thirst for knowledge, and display a larger than life passion for this industry then they will notice and repsond to it ten fold.

A key factor that also drew me to Berklee's music business program was the school's commitment to training ALL its students as musicians, regardless of whether you are in a performance-based major or not. Being a trained, knowledgeable, and proficient musician adds a profound degree of respect and credibilty when being an industry professional. Furthermore, it will instill a strong and long term interest in the protection, propogation, and appreciation of quality music.

Another thing that most people don't realize about Berklee is how much work is involved. On average you will have between 7-9 classes per semester. Make sure you have the self discipline and passion for the school to be able to manage that alongside practicing your instrument, studying for classes, having a job, and being involved in extra curricular activities. The place isn't nicknamed "Berzerklee" for nothing.

Make sure that you would be absolutely miserable doing anything besides music before coming to this school, and when/if you get here; check your ego at the door, listen carefully to your teachers (they know what they are talking about), be prepared to work hard, make friends, smile, and get ready for one of the most challenging, profound, and life-changing experiences of your life.

questionI read your review about Berklee and how you went into the Music Buisness program. Couple questions: what year did you attend? did you have to know how to play an instrament? and what/where are you working for now?

Where did you learn to write so professionally? Did you actually go to Berklee?

Sorry but this smacks of the type of marketing lingo that comes in any of the brochures mailed out by Berklee.

commentI see also that you've gotten a nearly 5-star ranking with your review. Are tuition sales really so bad that Berklee faculty is on here writing reviews and rating comments?

How pathetic that would be.
