I would like to offset all of the negative comments in the reviews I've read about Grove City College in this thread. I looked at this site before going to Grove City and it really upset me. For a really long time, I was convinced I had made the wrong choice. The arguments in the reviews seem pretty well articulated. After being there for a year, I can honestly say I made the right decision.

My big question to a majority of the negative reviewers is this—Why did you go to Grove City to begin with? I firmly believe that there are very little secrets about Grove City. Even when you go to www.gcc.edu, the menu bar says Grove City College-Authentically Christian, Challenging Academics, Surprising Tuition. The college is unapologetically Christian. Along with a low tuition, this is what attracts many to the school. Sure, the rules are relatively restrictive compared to other colleges but think about it—Do you expect to go to a Christian school for instance and expect them to allow a dorm that allows both men and women in the same building ?

Having all of this been said, the rules are set out from the beginning and you should have known what to expect if you enrolled in this school. If you want to drink, have sex, party till 3 AM…don't come here. The school itself will tell you that they exist for certain types of students. Not everyone can work under these types of rules. The school never tries to pretend not to have these rules.

I personally had a great 4 years at the college. Although I have had many ups and downs and even considered transfering, I can't help but be amazed at the amount Grove City has to offer. The people are all very friendly and welcoming. It was very easy to make and keep friends.

The education is top-notched. The classes are very difficult and they will make you work harder than you ever thought you could. They really open your mind. They are firm in their Christian viewpoints, and do not give into to any of the relativist ideas that dominate so many of today's modern colleges. I took both Old Testament and New Testament course that challenges my faith while adding to my knowledge of the Bible. I joined a sorority with 30 other amazing Christian women. It's a great way to develop a more active social life. Yeah, the food isn't the best and the whole marriage thing is weird. In all honestly though, you don't have to let it get to you if you don't want to. It's all what you make of it.

Grove City offers all of this for about 15,000 a year. IF you are a prospective student, I really encourage you to look at this school. I can't describe how much I've changed for the better at GCC. It really has been such a blessing in my life. God works so much on campus. GCC is an amazing place with great opportunities…

I must respectfully diagree on a few points. First of all, the majority of people on campus are in clicks. Call it sororities, fraternities, clubs, sport teams etc. Almost everyone closes themselves into these circles and excludes others. While i had many friends in these clubs, I rarely was able to participate in social events with them. The level of clickiness was in fact so widespread, i realized how accepting my highschool was. (and how much I appreciated non-christians.) The social environment is not christian at all but elitist. I honestly think Jesus would be ashameed of GCC (and he would NEVER attend school there.)
responseI also will have to respectfully disagree with the first poster. You mentioned it was easy to make and keep friends, well, I must say, You must have been one considered socially acceptable to "them". you must have been republican, & a fundamentalist, among other things, but I'd rather not go into that because there's no way I could go about it without feeling like I've insulted you. The campus, the rules, the practices they've had for years didn't bother me a bit. That's exactly why i chose Grove City. Then I get to campus, and have never met a group of more unaccepting, anti tolerant, non loving, non christian people in my entire life. I transferred the next year and see people on my campus who are christians without even knowing it. The treatment I received from students, faculty and staff was beyond terrible, and I agree with the poster above. Jesus would be ashamed of GCC for the way the people on campus mercilessly beat down others who weren't their cookie cutter spitting image. Individuality is what makes the world a better and more unique place. You won't find a bit of that at GCC. If you're a student considering GCC, don't even take a second look unless you fit their standard perfect person. No gays, no liberals, no catholics, no casual drinkers, no independents, NO GOOD.
