I know that I'll sound a little strident in this review, but Concordia is not the place to go if you want to grow as a human being and learn and be genuinely challenged.

Academically, some aspects of it is excellent (music and language of course) but as a language student (and biology minor) I can say that the school did a poor job of teaching culture and the breadth of language, but rather was a provincial approach to the topic.

Profs are generally nice, though they are not inclined to dialogue and not so good at shepherding curiosity. So,e were totally asleep at the wheel, but thats to be found anywhere.

However, in my experiences at other schools I now think there are a higher than normal ratio of clock-punchers at Conc.

Socially, its pretty much a pressure cooker with lots of confused christians doing a poor job of living like christians. You will be safe but expect some sheltered people working out some difficult questions in their life, and all the concurrent mess that entails with those around them.

We called the school Conform-ia in my day, and it was a very appropriate label. I'm not some wild thing; I'm christian and midwestern, but after I left there and went into the working world, some overseas travel, and then onto grad school I came to see what a poor prep it was for life.
