Before enrolling in this college, as well as any other college, I would strongly advise to visit, visit, VISIT! It is only in your best interest to invest in some time to get a complete campus tour.

I feel like Jacksonville University fell far below my expectations, especially as a college located in a large city. The fist impression most people get is that this college is located in a bad neighborhood, and those assumptions are, for the most part, correct. There have been many robberies on school campus, as well as one or two deaths in the past 2 years.

There aren't that many active clubs, extracurriculars, or athletics that student can get involved in. There are, however, a few exceptional EC's, such as Crew and some intramural sports. Due to the location of the school (the "bad part of town), it is advised that you do not go out alone at night, unless you are driving or being driven.

On a scale of 1-10, the food service here would be given a generous 5. In total, there are around 4 or 5 places you can choose to dine at on campus. One is the cafeteria, where there is a salad-bar atmosphere (all-you-can-eat). Though sometimes decent entrees are served, most are either the same throughout the year or leftovers from the previous day. The hours are also strange. They are not open from morning to night, but instead have irregular hours that do not really go around the average student's schedule (8-10, 11-2, 5-8). The other locations are basically 3 different restaurants where you can buy a burger, which have slightly more flexible hours than the cafeteria.

One very good aspect of this school is the professors. They are the most engaging, helpful, caring staff that I have ever met. They truly want to help you in any way possible to further your education. If it weren't for some professors, I likely would be lost in my course work. The staff here (at least the professors- can't say anything about the administration) is A++++!

For over $35k a year, this is definitely not a college worth investing in. There are few students here on the weekends, due to a large number being commuters.
