Providence College will get mixed reviews just like any other school will. It depends on what kind of person you are. I had a terrific experience at Providence College, but things worked out for me very well. I was a decent student who worked pretty hard. I like to go out and drink, I like sports, I like movies and tv, I basically just like to have fun and sometimes that would get in the way of doing work but I always managed to pull down at least decent grades.

The academics are hit or miss. I found the CIV class pretty interesting, but the amount of work results in you having to slack off a little bit because doing everything they want you to do and get an A would require much more work than I was willing to put in. With that said, I attended probably 99% of my CIV classes in the 2 years, and I would always pay attention and try to learn something. The other classes I took, it all depended on the professor. Some were real easy, others were nearly impossible. My major required a good amount of work, but I actually liked a lot of the electives I took.

The social scene was perfect for someone like me. Thursday, Friday and Saturday were a blast (if you like going out and drinking). Lucky for me, I found a good group of friends who shared my interests and liked to have fun as well. So, for me, it was perfect. However, my younger brother who does not drink went there and did not like it, he transferred after a semester. The common thing that I see with this school is that kids who like go out and drink/party love the school, and those who do not have a tough time finding a niche there.

If you're a guy, there are plenty of attractive girls there. If you're a girl, there are A LOT of meat heads and preppy tools, but usually there should be a couple groups of solid guys.

I think the reputation of the school has gotten much better over the last 5 years or so. I remember when I was in high school in the early 2000s it was considered a "pretty good" school, now I feel like its considered a "Good" school.

The sports are kind of frustrating. The basketball team should probably be pretty good year in year out, but they only really had 1 good season while I was there. Hockey would be the only other sport I would really know anything about and they seemed to be middle of the pack while I was there. Not having a baseball or football hurts the credibility of the school a bit.

I dont think the Religious aspect is overbearing at all. But I did go to a catholic high school so maybe I was just used to it.

Overall, I loved it, but I can see why certain people would not like it. If you like to drink and have a good time and go out a lot, you'll have a blast. If you don't, I'm sure you could find things to do but if you get stuck in a dorm where everyone is drinking you might feel out of place and dislike it right from the start.
