Major: Electrical Engineering (This Major's Salary over time)
In high school I was salutatorian of my graduating class and was part of many extracurricular activities. UNR was my backup, even though I got early acceptance into the UCLA, UCI, and UCSD engineering programs. However, due to financial issues, I chose to go to UNR because I had heard that their engineering program was better than UNLV's. What can I say, I got what I paid for. During my second year here, they had major budget cuts and are cutting the many academic centers such as the math center, writing center, and the professional guidance program. Not to mention, they will no longer have any pre-med advisors, which hurts me as a pre med student. The campus is on an elevated hill, which means that getting to class every day, you will need to go up a steep hill, walk up stairs, or walk down a ramp. It provides a good workout for your legs but it gets extremely tiring. Also, the entire campus is made up of buildings made of brick. Both the student union and the library are far away from the main buildings and require a shuttle to be accessed. As for the surrounding city, Reno is quite dull. I come from Las Vegas and it is hard getting used to a small city with only two malls and a few grocery stores. Reno is definitely for the outdoor type person. There are not much places to go for fun or dates. Personally, I cannot wait to graduate so that I can finally get out of this city.

Furthermore, the engineering program here is a joke. My intro class had OVER 300 people in it. There was no way that I could receive a quality education with only three professors to 300 students. Also, 90% of the engineering TAs and professors here are foreign. It gets extremely difficult to understand them.

Lastly, the food choices at UNR are poor. The main places to eat overcharge, especially The Overlook and Los Trojes. Overall, I think the quality of education and social life here at UNR is quite poor. If you are considering studying here and do not have any problems with money, I would consider studying elsewhere. It is a cheap college that offers a cheap education
