Just as any other school UI has its ups and downs. It is a good school academically, better than most no doubt. Moscow is a nice college town but don't expect to hit clubs every night, its not that type of place. The palouse is absolutely stunning at times, and was even featured in National Geographic. The campus is beautiful as well, especially in the Fall and Summer. Students are fun and friendly, the school is a perfect size, not to small, not too big, but does offer big opportunities and early research opportunities.
