I've grown up in Evansville, so my view of USI is different from the out-of-staters. USI is cheap, conveniently placed and above all a last choice for most Evansville HS seniors. No one wants to go to USI and so as a result, being forced into going to USI, either by rejection from Purdue, IU, BSU, etc. or because of financial state creates a sense of I chose to come here because I was not ready to leave my family. I was accepted into my dream school and at the last minute, backed out. MISTAAAAKEUSI with its small class sizes and English profficient instructors is great for people who want to focus strictly on academics, but for a full college experience go else where. What most people don't realize is the people who run USI want it to be a commuter school. They don't want partying, drinking, greek life or any form of social life. If they had it their way, USI would have no on campus living. They market themselves as the perfect place for "adults continuing their education." Drinking is stricktly prohibited and on campus parties(which there rarely are any) get busted and the hosts get kicked off campus. Every year the Greek officials have to fight the USI officials in order to have events—USI does not support it's greek life and only 5% out of 10,000 students choose to go Greek. I did not because none of them seem fun(the only houses are OFF CAMPUS and the rest live in campus apartments—boring) And not to mention the lack of a football team—no saturday/sunday fall afternoons in a packed stadium cheering on your team, no tail gatingConclusion—USI-great for academics, bad for I have grown to like it here, but am trying like hell to get out next year. MUST LEAVE EVANSVILLEEEEEE
