Date: Apr 18 2009 Major: English (This Major's Salary over time) I found that the research priority of the Universities of CA (I went to UCLA, too) did not prepare me for a profitable job. How we were going to use our education for a good-paying career was not discussed. Varieties of careers that my majors - English and Art - could prepare me for were not discussed. I learned to write, read comparatively, understand other languages, and "express" myself in art and writing. I did not learn how to use those talents for a career.I was also disappointed at how many of my teachers had always just been professors and had not used their skills in the real world. I had to learn my skills once I landed a job from my superiors in the business world. I learned my writing skills from ex-newspaper journalists who wrote better than any teacher I ever had.I recommend going to a school without TA's, with professors who have actually made a living at what they are teaching, and a school that provides assistance with internships and job-matching. State Universities did not do that, though I had fun and learned much that expanded my mind - just not in any profitable way after graduation.
