I've only been attending southern for about 2 months now and so far I'm having a pretty good time. I'm a freshman and have taken advantage of being able to live in an apartment which is nice. But let me tell you guys about the school.

EDUCATION: So far all of the professors I have are really smart, funny, and approachable. Two of them even prefer to be called by their first names. Another one of my professors also teaches at Yale and testifies for congress. For the most part the workload at southern isn't too heavy even though there are a couple of very difficult classes. The nursing and education programs here are spectacular. The school doesn't have the greatest rep besides its nursing and education programs but its starting to get a lot harder to get into. A couple of my friends got into central and eastern but could not get into Southern.

CAMPUS: I wouldn't say the campus is gorgeous but its far from ugly. They are constantly doing construction and improvements on the campus and its looking prettier by the day. A lot of the buildings are brand new and look amazing. (especially the library that isn't finished yet) I've been in the dorms and they don't seem that bad, there all kind of small though. A lot of people complain about the food while others love it. I personally think its delicious but I'm the type of guy who enjoyed my high school cafeteria food and I'm not on the meal plan so its not like I eat the CT hall food daily. They do have Dunkin Donuts, Sabbarro, and some other places in the student center which is definitely better than the CT hall food.

SOCIAL: This probably fits in with campus but the first thing I noticed when I got here was that there are cops everywhere. The cops are pretty annoying too. Southern used to be known as a big party school but all of the main party houses got shut down like the football house. I'm a house party type of guy so this kind of bothers me. Also a lot of people go home on weekends. The great thing about southern is that you have Downtown New Haven which can basically please anyone. There's FANTASTIC FOOD, toads place which always has great artists of all kinds (wu-tang, original wailers, slightly stoopid and many others have all been there recently) Theres a number of cool shops, hookah bars, bars, clubs, museums. If you like the clubs than southern is a great place for you because EVERYONE HERE LOVES CLUBBING. I don't really like to go clubbing but some of the places are alright with lounges and whatever. A lot of the people like going to the grimey/dirty clubs though. A great thing about southern is that there are A LOT OF PRETTY GIRLS. Be careful around southern at night time because there are a lot of people out there trying to mug you and I've heard plenty of stories from friends getting robbed at gun point and stuff like that. For the most part you will be fine if your not walking down Fitch or Blake street by yourself and definitely don't go to edgewood park when its dark even though its a really nice place to be during the day. (skate park, walking trails, tennis/basketball courts) A lot of people go to the football games and there's definitely a sense of school spirit.

I'm probably going to transfer next year. I'm having a great time at southern but I want to go to a school with a better reputation, and more parties. I'm not saying I'm a party animal but I'm really not into clubs. If your not 21 or don't have a fake id you can still have a good time down town but it limits you to like five spots where you can get into and there will be people.(talking about bars/clubs) I really like the small classes and I think the professors here are great. The food is good, the buildings/campus are well maintained, and Southern has a pretty good price tag especially for an instate student like me who received a nice financial aid package. Even though its a lot cheaper/bigger/more private I recommend not getting an apartment freshman year because it's a lot harder to meet people unless you get involved with sports or clubs or something. Me and my room mate are really social so we met a lot of people.

Sorry this is written extremely sloppily and quickly. I tried to just write this comment real fast and cover everything.
