As a recent graduate, I'm just beginning to realize now many of the services provided to me by Grinnell College that I took for granted that I don't have at my current graduate institution. Grinnell was a great place where you could be yourself - act for yourself, dress for yourself, study for yourself - without social cliques trying to influence you to look or behave in a certain way. The administration were incredibly supportive and transparent to the campus community and didn't mind that bands of students would get together and challenge their authority. The campus climate really valued open dialogue and the free exchange of ideas without necessarily arguing as a means to an end, but as a means of investigation. Finally, with such a massive endowment, services were almost always top-notch and there were many projects available to Grinnell students that aren't available at less wealthy schools, simply as a matter of financial constraint.
