SFSU is overall a decent school. Right now state budget cuts are heavily affecting the amount of classes offered and the overall quality of the school, but thats not the school's fault. However there are plenty of things that the school does have control over that are terrible. Mainly, housing. DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT live on campus. It is painfully expensive, you can find plenty of apartments off campus for a fraction of what you would be paying on campus. If you are an incoming freshmen, I can see the appeal of living on campus. But for transfer students, which I am, DO NOT DO IT! I was promised that i would get to live with students my own age (21 and up) and instead i was placed with all freshmen AND I am paying much more money than i would be if i were in an apartment off campus. I have become so frustrated with the Housing department I have tried to devise every way to get out of my contract with them to move early. The Housing staff is extremely frustrating, unwilling to work with students to give them better housing options. I also tried to get rid of my meal plan with not luck. That costs me about $2,000 for the year on food I do not eat because the dining center serves what i can only describe as elementary school cafeteria food. Frankly, I see why everyone lives on campus for one year and runs away screaming, never coming back.
