I am so happy that I chose to go to Bates! It is everything that I wanted in college-a challenging school that values intellectual curiosity and faculty that are engaging and accessible. For the most part, students are friendly and supportive. There are a wide mix of kids—but there are a lot that are 'jocks'. My main complaint would be the weekend atmosphere that revolves around drinking. Granted, there isn't a lot to do in Lewiston, but seriously, does every event have to end in a drunken brawl? There is also quite a bit of tension between townies and students—I would not venture off alone off campus. There is palpable tension. Overall, I have loved my time at Bates. No school is perfect, but Bates is darn close!
