I chose Maryville College because it's a small school and a good school. I went to a fairly difficult high school, and knew that Maryville would prepare me well for my field. The professors really care about the student as an individual - but be warned, the work can be difficult. They expect a lot, but they definately offer the resources. As long as you work hard, you should do fine. I have friends at nearby schools (UTK, ETSU, UTC), and their quality of education does not compare. This school is great academically. Because it's a small school, it's very easy to get involved. I had trouble making a name for myself in highschool, but I was involved in a leadership position at Maryville. Everyone is very warm and encouraging. It might be pricey, but the financial aid is incredibly generous. Don't rule this school out due to financial concerns - they can make it happen. However, the school, and the surrounding area, is by no means, a party atmosphere. If you're looking for that type of activity, you'll have to go to Knoxville. However, it's a very safe campus. My only complaint about the school is the faculty. There are many student positions (RAs, Peer Mentors, etc) that are seemingly granted based on favoritism, rather than merit. In such a small school, the faculty and staff clearly play favorites with the students, and don't always offer equal opportunities or act professionally with students. If you can suck up to authority, you've got it made, but unfortunately, the most qualified people usually get overlooked.
