Major: Religion/Religious (This Major's Salary over time)
The weather is sometimes humid, Sunny and hot! Sometimes in the winter though it can rain like 5 times out of the week. Chattanooga is the nearest city and offers a few things to do, people in Chatt are not too nice though. Knoxville is the next closest and there is more to do there. Southern is supposed to be first a missionary college but has lost that mission. It is now a business. This school is waaaaaaay TOO EXPENSIVE!!!! You could get much cheaper somewhere else. THe school is financial office has practically no resources, so after your Federal grants and Southern grant (which is not too much) you pay the remainder. Which could be 10-15 thousand dollars left depending on your financial status. School has very limited parking and sends out the (wolves) campus safety, to ticket everytime you are parked in an undesignated area. Another way to make money as if they don't make enough. THe food in the Cafe is so horrible, I can't even begin to describe!! Then there is KR's which is ok about once a month, processed foods (veggie meats). Then there is CK's across the street and everything is fried and tastes horrible too. Best bet is drive down the street to Taco Bell, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Dominos, Hardee's, subway, etc. The professors in Religion are exceptional in their field. They prepare you for ministry very well and they are passionate about their cause. However, meeting with some of them can be difficult. Make an appointment! OUtside of the religion department all else is not so good. Dorms look good on the outside but on the inside. Internet is capped so you only get a certain amount of megabytes and when you use up your band with you are out of luck, sorry for ya. All the money you pay to go here and bad internet in the dorms, bad food, bad financial aid (lack of resources) and some are tired of it. The school seems to have lost its mission. This school needs prayer, it is not perfect. Most professors have been really good and very well able to instruct. Campus is beautiful but that only goes so far. Seems they misuse their money on things they don't need like a round a bout with a lousy fountain worth, ready, $250,000! Then an idol of Elijah and Elisha being sculpted every summer, which costs money for the artist to keep carving it and money for the stone. For a religion who speaks about keeping all the commandments of God, they forgot the 2nd commandment which speaks of idols. Maybe they would stop making these statues. They could use that money for something more productive, like healthier tastier food for students or more money for grants or those in need. There is so much to go on about but bottom line is this. Scholastically this school is very good! Outside of the classroom and its beautiful landscaping, this is where it fails. Too expensive folks! Theology, nursing, mechanics, Biology, etc, you could go somewhere else for much more cheaper price and probably more financial aid. If you don't want to come out of school heavy laden with debt, then this school is not for you. Yes, many students are rich and some are very poor. If can afford it then go for it.
