I absolutely love WBU. I am a Senior going to UT Law next year and i really can not say how wonderful the external campus in Lubbock Texas is. As a nontraditional (old) student i really enjoyed the diverse environment not only in age but also in both gender and race. I would assume that WBU is odd for a private Baptist school in that religious tolerance and in fact tolerance of every kind is practiced by not only the administration, but the student body as well. You will have grandparents, fresh from Iraq war veterans, wealthy businesspeople, midlife career changers, as well as just your average 18-30 something students (some career students love this school because of how easy going and helpful the faculty are.)

Every semester you will have someone in your classes that you know, and the average class size is about 12, however i have had classes as small as 3 students and as large as 17 students, however these are very rare.

Wayland's application system is pretty old fashioned. They really like to meet with you, assign you an advisor, and then let that advisor hold your hand through out your University career (and they do a really excellent job.) Most of these advisors are the retired principles and superintendents of the small school districts that are across the South Plains, and they really like to help. The only complaint that one might have is that this old fashioned system takes time, however it works great.

I often compare going to Wayland as opposed to a public school like Texas Tech as the difference between shopping at Neiman Marcus and Kmart. Yes both schools will get you an education, however at Wayland you are given top notch and first class service. As a senior i walk in the front door and am greeted by the secretaries by name. I can call my campus up on the telaphone and tell them my name and they know who i am and ask about my children. If i need to talk to my academic advisor i never have to wait longer than a few minutes and it is usually because he is talking to another student already. I can walk into the Dean of the colleges office without an appointment, be greeted by name, and talk over what i need.

If you want a truly white glove first class education go to WBU, you will not regret it! The only drawback that I would see is that the commuter campuses do not give a true "college" feel to the environment and that if you are a young person who is looking to meet new friends or engage in college activities than go to the campus in Plainview, i have had a chance to go there and can assure you that the people are really nice.
