I am in the Hotel Administration M.S. program and LOVE it! If you are considering a graduate degree in Hotel/Hospitality Administration, you simply can't go wrong with UNLV. It's the 2nd highest ranked program in the country, only behind Cornell, but at a FRACTION of the cost. I originally planned on stopping at my Master's, but due to my positive experience, prestige of the program and caliber of the faculty, I have decided earn a Ph.D in Hospitality Administration. I really don't get all the negative comments I've been reading. As has been stated many times on StudentsReview, just like life, college is what you make of it!!! Granted, I earned my B.S. from a university in Michigan, so I really can't comment on the undergrad experience, but I have had nothing but positive experiences as a grad student. All of my professors have been extremely enlightening and very experienced/knowledgeable in their fields. For the most part, the facilities are in great shape and the campus is filled with many aesthetically pleasing plants, trees, flowers, etc. That may sound cheesy, but believe me, after living in the desert for a while, it is something to be appreciated. I will admit the campus isn't in the best part of town, but there are much worse places in the city. The social atmosphere on campus is lacking, but who cares, campus is only 1.5 miles from the strip, so students have the privilege of unlimited access to the "Entertainment Capital of the World". College students across the country would give up their frat/sorority houses in a millisecond to have our social scene. My best advice, for potential out-of-state grad students, would be to apply for a Graduate Assistantship. I was fortunate enough to be chosen for one (4 available in my department) and am EXTREMELY grateful for all the benefits: Out-of-state tuition waiver ($6k per semester), 80% waiver of remaining tuition, health insurance, textbook discounts and free tickets to sporting events. Don't listen to the haters, you will not regret going to UNLV. I'm getting a degree from a top-notch program, with basically no expense, can't beat that!
