What? Don't go to Michigan expecting any sort of cultural mecca. Unless you're actually looking for Mecca |
Major: Biology (This Major's Salary over time)
Coming into my junior year, I have truly enjoyed my educational experience in the Biology department. Make sure you know what you want to do in biology by your sophomore year for an easy transition into research and advanced coursework. Iowa State overall is beautiful campus with a lot to offer. The professors are great and always willing to help in my experience. The students however are mostly Iowans. This kind of dampens the cultural aspect of the city. Everyone wears the same clothes, listens to the same music. Iowa State is not unique to this, I know. But, the agricultural community and small town mentality of many of the students leads very little common ground if you come from a big city. Beer, football, and country music are the name of the game in Ames, IA. Some of you might love that. Others (like me) might hate it. With the very low standards of acceptance, you find many individuals that don't even belong in a university. The weed out courses cut most of the classes in half by the drop-date. Iowa State offers a lot to its students educationally. But, if you want the culture center of college campuses go to UIllinois, WashU, Michigan or any school by a large city.
