Major: Other (This Major's Salary over time)
This University is unique, but anyone going to BYU has done their research and should have at least an idea of what to expect. Naturally, the majority of students are LDS and so not surprisingly the prevailing moral and even social standards fall in line with the Church's guidelines. However, I had quite a few friends that were not LDS and loved their school experience and all appreciated how they were widely accepted into social circles even though they didn't go to church with most other people and were not LDS themselves (most of my LDS friends enjoyed the company of the "minority" non-LDS students precisely because there were so few of them). My particular major was not strong (Latin American Studies) so I did regret that it wasn't as challenging as I had hoped for. However, because I worked hard my GPA was exceptionally high and, like it or not, grad schools like high GPA's even if you're not from a science-type major where it's much more competitive and difficult to get high GPA's (and most of those kids were smarter than me with lower GPA's. not fair, but it still works out that way). I was, however, challenged in a number of my classes in Political Science and Economics so the quality of teaching is definitely there. My English class was particularly difficult and I've been reaping the rewards of the hard work and high expectations even through law school (Penn St.). Overall, BYU is a great and very welcoming university with excellent networking opportunities in most major fields. I felt that I was prepared to go where ever I wanted to go by the rigorous training I received in many of my classes. I love BYU.
