Major: Perfomance Arts (This Major's Salary over time)
I can't lie, I absolutely adore the University of Montevallo. I am a Musical Theatre Major, and my department is fantastic. The professors are friendly and helpful, but most importantly they are obviously interested in my education. They are not just concerned about my immediate education, though, they are also interested in helping me be successful in my future career. In what is often considered a "cut-throat" business the students are more interested in making sure that everyone involved progresses in a positive manner. Not only is my department wonderful, the University is wonderful as a whole. It is very obvious that the campus promotes a progressive learning style that is more focused on you actually gaining knowledge as opposed to memorizing facts. Not only have I learned useful knowledge in the classrooms, I have learned so much from my fellow students. We promote an environment where everyone feels welcome and safe. I am not saying that the University is perfect. We have a pretty bad cafeteria, but we recently added a Starbucks on campus, so at least they seem to be trying. We are also located in a very small town; there isn't even a Taco Bell. You know it is small when you have to drive 15 minutes to the nearest Taco Bell. But we are just about 30 minutes away from Birmingham, which is one of the most active cities in the state. It is true that this University is probably not a great a fit for everyone. Not everyone is okay with excepting people for who they are, and not everyone wants to go to a school where we are more interested in the general students of the campus as opposed to a football team. But I love my school where we support everyone from the Theatre Majors to the Graphic Design Majors to the Math Majors to the basketball team. We work hard to build a community feeling. I do not think there is another University where I would be any happier than I am at the University of Montevallo.
