I
am a student at Southeastern Louisiana University in the small
town of Hammond. The town is cute, slower paced
with some bars and a “club” for those who have
to party every weekend. Anyway, the school is mediocre.
I actually transferred here from Delgado community college.
My math classes didn't transfer with me. The main
thing that really screwed me up was the fact that
I was NEVER informed that transfer students are automatically put
on financial aid probation. So when I didn't pass
my remedial math class, I was put on financial aid
suspension and I couldn't figure out why this was happening.
I dealt with this problem for nearly a year.
The financial aid staff seem to be completely incompetent.
The older woman that is usually behind her desk
in the financial aid office always walks out when my
husband and I come in. She's often on Facebook,
as are the student workers and acts pissed off when
she has to do her job. The first math
instructor I had stated that “you all probably know this
already” our first day in class and never truly taught.
I had a 3.3 GPA when I transferred and
it quickly dropped to a 2.9. It feels like
the rest of the student population are simple nitwits coasting
on D's. Which is why there is so much
red tape to cross. I've had a few wonderful professors
who really enjoyed the subject they were teaching and where
exceptionally knowledgeable. Overall, if I had the choice I would
not be here. I wouldn't even be in Louisiana
if I could afford it. And don't get me
started on LSU. What a joke.
