CNU is still a growing university so there are still things the school has to work on. It is already a beautiful campus and is continuing to grow with beautiful facilities and brand new housing. Academics are great, although there is only a selection of majors to choose from (remember this is a liberal arts school). You get to experience large class sizes (up to 150) and the small classes. Small classes are great- you get to interact with your professors and they are always willing to help you! You just have to ask and they are always so helpful! Greek life is beginning to grow more than the past and sports are beginning to grow as well, though we are still a D3 school. There are definitely some flaws such as students now have to live on campus till there junior year and I heard they might change it up until four years. I will be a rising junior but I got out of living on campus. If you have the reasons or can convince the school to let you get off with legitimate reasons, you'll get off and shouldn't be too much of an issue. CNU was my 2nd choice school because I fell in love with the campus. Coming into CNU I really enjoyed it, but not loved it. At first, I was going to transfer my sophomore year to JMU (first choice) but decided to stay and I'm glad I did. Disregarding some of its flaws, it's really what you make of it. Some people say the night life is lame here, but honestly I've never really had any difficulty going out. There are plenty of fraternity parties and parties in general. You can't expect things to come to you, you have to reach out. Even though there are some part of Newport News that aren't safe… it's not everywhere. It really is particular areas in the city. The beach is so close by. If you don't want to drive all the way to VA beach (only 30-40 min), then there is buckroe (20), hunington, and one behind school. Not saying this school is for everyone, but it is for some people and it's a great school if you make the best of it!
