I came to Baldwin in the fall of 2010 and while sometimes I'm not the happiest with it, overall I'm pretty happy with it. These past 2 years have taught me a lot! Give MBC a chance and you may find it's for you!

The other reviews do not shock me at all. The class of 2015 was full of pretty rude people who did not even visit the college first. Word to the wise (even if you don't go to Baldwin): VISIT the college FIRST. Not after you've been accepted! Many of these ladies are also big party people- MBC isn't a party school, try JMU!

Yes the freshmen dorms are run down (Spencer and Woodson) but they could be worse (Kable and Tully). Spencer and Woodson are on the list to be renovated. Baldwin was hit hard by the recession (just like other colleges)! It will take time but soon all of the dorms will be nice!

Woodson is the only dorm that has the roach issue. When I lived in Woodson, I never had any bugs because I kept the room clean!

The lice break out and bed bug outbreak that was mentioned below was caused by the same freshmen who refused to treat. The bed bug outbreak really wasn't an outbreak- it was in a whole 4 rooms top. The lice out break was taken care of by the health center and student life quickly.

Again, just keep yourself clean.

The cleaning ladies do try hard to keep the dorm bathrooms clean, but responsibility for keeping it clean is up to the ladies who live there (i.e: don't do gross things!)! Keep clean, and your stuff clean and you'll find no bug issues, no need to shower elsewhere.

After your freshmen year when you go to move into a new dorm, you will most likely get a dorm with AC. Only 4 of the dorms don't have AC. Maybe if you are just used to mommy and daddy giving you a fancy house and not needing to pick up after yourself you may find the dorms rundown.

The food isn't the best or for everybody, but it's included in your meal plan. I am not a picky eater so I don't have issues. If you are a picky eater, you do not want to eat on campus. Though there is a salad bar always open and a cereal bar as well. While there is not a place on campus to get food 24/7, you can stock up on food from the WalMart no more then 3 miles away that the free trolley will take you to (or ask an upperclassmen, they may drive you! or bring your own car). Just a short walk past the PAC is a 7-11 that is open 24/7 if you must have food; all of the dorms also have snack machines.

A big plus is that laundry is free! While you may have to wait sometimes for a unit, it's free and you really can't complain about free things!

Most of the professors are really nice and prompt about e-mails. All of my professors have known me by name and have been a real help. My freshmen adviser tried to help, but I failed to communicate regularly- ladies sometimes it is YOU not them! If your adviser won't sit down with you to help, there is somebody who will!

The level of challenge in each class depends on you- depends on the classes you pick, the times, and the teacher. If you want a challenge try going into the honors gateway or working part-time off campus. There are ways to make it challenging.

MBC is the least expensive all women's college in VA- but they do give out scholarships and aid to those who try hard and need it; it's calculated by your need and merit!

Don't listen to me or the other gals! Go visit MBC and stay overnight to see if it's for you! Maybe living in the dorms aren't but you can live off campus.

MBC offers a few unique programs: PEG, BA/MAT 5 year, ADP, and the Shakespeare. So just look and visit to see if it's right for you!

Most of the juniors and seniors are VERY approachable! Your freshmen and sophomore years are kind of bitter, but that's just the teen years ending!

Give it a shot! You'll never know what you missed if you didn't at least visit!

responseThe free trolley DOES NOT go to Wal Mart. The 250 bus does, but it costs 50 cents each way, and takes a fairly round about route to get there.
commentYou need to get over yourself and your class year. Mary Baldwin likes to make a big deal about different class years, but the truth is that they are hardly different from one another. Apart from the fact that they graduate in different years, it's just an artificial difference that serves only to create a certain identity and let everyone pretend that their class is better than the others.
And since when does wanting AC mean you're spoiled and come from a "fancy house"? AC is pretty much standard these days anywhere you go.
responseI think it is funny that you, a sophomore when this review was written, put down the freshmen. In other words, you criticized the one single class younger and newer than your own as of the time this review came out.
