I actually grew up in Greenville and attended Bob Jones schools since K5. I had the choice, when I got to my senior year in high school, to either go to a different Christian school, or to continue on and go to the University at Bob Jones. (My parents wanted me to go to the school that I felt like God was calling me to.) I did my research and prayed a lot about it, and I felt like God was calling me to continue on at BJU. I majored in Women's Ministries (Bible, Counseling, and Education) and Minored in Music. I absolutely loved my classes!! (Of course there were a few that were not ranked at the top of my list, but I still learned so much from them!) One thing that impressed me a lot about the University was how much the teachers cared. In all of my classes, I felt like I could approach the teachers without being looked down upon or feeling like I was intruding on them. They cared more about me as a person, than about my academics. (Academics was important to them, but my walk with the Lord was more important.) There were a couple times in particular that I remember going up to one of my teachers and asking her about "life questions." She took time out of her busy schedule to help me answer my questions and even went to lunch with me one day to talk about "life." It is also a blessing and encouragement to see Dr. Stephen Jones and other administrators eating in the Varsity room of the Dining Common with students. The classes are very academically challenging, but you learn a lot! Teachers are also very willing to help if you are struggling and there is an Academic Resource Center that can help with tutoring, study skills, time management skills, and test taking skills if you need it.

There are many other aspects I enjoyed about BJU! Through choir, society, and prayer group in the dorms, I made SO many great godly friends! Some of them I'm still in touch with! It was such a blessing when I would be going through a rough day, and one of my friends would walk up and ask how I was doing! I spent many evenings having long chats and praying with friends in the hallways! I also had many opportunities to disciple and encourage my peers through leadership positions in the dorm and society.

Another great aspect about BJU is that it is a Liberal Arts University! You learn about more than just "your subject" and are able to participate in many wonderful opportunities on and off campus! One of my favorite times in college was being able to be a part of 2 operas (Samson et Dalila and Faust). I am not what you would consider an "opera person," but I learned SO much about all that goes into a production like that and made great friends in the process! It was also neat to be able to interact with the famous guest artists that are invited to have many of the lead roles in the production. To give you an idea of the quality of our productions here at BJU, Samson et Dalila was recorded and entered into a national opera competition on the collegiate level and ended up being pulled out of the collegiate level by the judges and put in the professional level! They said that it "just blew all of the other colleges out of the water!" We ended up getting 2nd place in the professional division competing with other famous opera houses such as the Met!! Faust was also entered in the same competition and got 3rd place! We were so excited about this!

One other thing I will mention that made a big impact on my life while a student at BJU was the opportunity to get to go on an outreach ministry to a church in GA for all 4 years. It was a smaller church so they appreciated the help of the few of us that went down. I learned so much about different aspects of the church and the people because I was able to participate in so many areas.

I won't tell you that every single day of my college career was perfect, but I wouldn't trade my college experience for anything! I learned SO much about myself and my God through BJU (through the good and the bad times).
