Major: Education (This Major's Salary over time)
I strongly advise you NOT to attend this University if you are from New Jersey. I had always known WVU to be a college where a lot of New Jersey residents chose to attend. When I went on my tour they even talked about how there are more students from the Tri-State area (New Jersey, New York & Connecticut) then there are from the state of West Virginia. Since I have been a student here (it?s now November, I?ve been here since August), I am DISGUSTED by the treatment of people from Jersey. Every single one of my professors has made fun of New Jersey. Everything from Jersey drivers to the Jersey Shore cast as if we are all representative of the tv show. I don?t even think any of them have ever been to Jersey before, they just listen to stereotypes. A ton of their students come from the Garden State and they clearly don?t care and are perfectly fine with insulting their students for absolutely no reason at all. I think it all comes down to them being jealous of New Jersey residents. They are stuck teaching at a University where education sucks and students have no drive for success in the middle of West Virginia, one of the worst states in the United States to live in. West Virginia is poor, people live in trailers, people are all rednecks, they have no education, etc while people in New Jersey for the most part are rich or upper middle class with nice houses and luxury cars. If you live in New Jersey you live within minutes of New York City, Philadelphia, the Delaware Water Gap and the beaches of the Jersey Shore. I would be jealous if I were them too. But it?s not our fault that they can?t get a job at New Jersey Universities. New Jersey values education, which is why we are home to Universities such as Princeton. There are no prestigious Universities in West Virginia and there never will be. Their best University is this shitty University that attracts teens who only want to party and wouldn?t have a shot in hell in getting into most colleges. Nobody in West Virginia could afford to live in New Jersey. These West Virginian?s can barely afford to live in trailers in the middle of bumfuck nowhere. New Jersey is one of the most expensive states to live in in the Nation. So while they rip on us, I just sit there and laugh. I get to go home to money and a wonderful state full of successful, hardworking individuals who have great educations and careers. You may be wondering why am I ranting so much on just this one topic, well here is your answer:Hurricane Sandy touched down the other day. It destroyed my home state. My hometown (close to New York City, where major flooding occurred) has been without power since the storm and it can take up to three weeks for it to come back on. My childhood memories are floating in the Atlantic Ocean. My beach house is gone. I have friends who have lost everything. I have tons of friends here who are from Jersey and we were all freaking out when this storm was happening. We didn?t know if our family and friends were safe, if we would have our homes or cars to come back to, we didn?t know. This has been one of the most difficult experiences in my life because I?m five hours away and I can?t help. I NEVER would have thought my professors and fellow classmates would be making jokes about this storm. My professors have joked about the storm in almost all of my classes, saying things like ?Too bad it didn?t wipe away the whole state!? ?No the armpit of the USA is finally clean!? ?Did the storm take the Jersey Shore cast with it?? and many more absolutely repulsive comments. I am appalled. I am hurt that I am stuck here with ignorant assholes who think it?s okay to joke about major destruction. Me and about 10 other people from New Jersey I know are transferring out of here after this semester and going back home. I know many from other states as well that are leaving. This is a horrible University and they should be ashamed of the people they have teaching classes and representing their University. I hate the school in general for many reasons (it?s too easy, it?s dirty as hell, etc) but this is the main reason I?m leaving. I am came here because I thought I?d try something new. I was born and raised in NJ so I figured another state would be good, except I chose the wrong University and state. Good going WVU, you should be proud to be pushing away so many students for your ignorance. I hope to God nothing severe happens in your state so you don?t have to experience what we?re going through that you find to be a joke. Here?s a big FUCK YOU from New Jersey and all other areas affected by Hurricane Sandy.
