Open mindedness is part of the amazing education that Hollins has to offer! If you are someone so sheltered and so insecure in your beliefs/morals/values that you feel uncomfortable around people of different races or sexual orientations or identities, then don't come here. Also, if you're someone more concerned with "greek life" and partying than studying or building lasting bonds, you will not be happy here. Do boys come here? Not really. But I think that having to go off campus to meet/find boys is a fair trade for having one of the safest campus's around. Hollins is a place where you don't hear horror stories about girls getting raped at our parties or harassed while walking the campus at night. Hollins is truly a home away from home; somewhere that you can feel safe and not have to worry about whether or not you're made-up or dolled up. Be who you are and we'll love you…as long as you're not mean. We don't like mean people. But Hollins is definitely a love/hate place as in you either love it or hate it. Before you decide to come here, if you can visit the campus, DO IT. I can't say that all "pearl girls" will hate it here, because there are some who love it. And I can't say that all "artsy types" will love it here, cause I know some that hated it and left. But I do know that if you're someone who is willing to learn how to live in a very close nit, very diverse community, then Hollins could be the place for you. But please for the love of god, visit the campus first if you can. Talk to students. Or do what I did and come sight unseen, fall in love, honey moon in Fiji, and live happily ever after :)
