Major: Accounting (This Major's Salary over time)
This review is solely intended for the Shidler College of Business within UH Manoa. <:people:> most people that you will see within the Shidler college of business are as follows1. Japanese, Chinese, and Koreans ( Overwhelming Majority )2. Filipinos, Vietnamese, Whites everything else ( Minority )A lot of the students come from private schools such as Mid Pacific, Iolani, Punahou, Hawaii Baptist Academy. A word of caution stay away from most of these kids they are extremely pretentious and fake people. Most of them still live at home with mommy and daddy and walk around with Louis Vuitton bags. A lot of them think of themselves as better than those around them. If they are even nice to you they see something they can "take" from you not because they actually "care" about you.Through a social standpoint I would recommend coming in with your own clique of friends. People here are very uptight and literally constantly trying to prove themselves. It somewhat makes me laugh trying to prove yourself worthy at UH Manoa. It is like walking in Mcdonalds with a suit on trying to act like your important. UH Manoa Shidler being the equivalent of a Mcdonalds reputation. <:professors:>From my experience within the accounting profession, most of the professors here are "useless." I have had professors that sit at the computer screen in the class and speak in a monotone voice going through their own set of notes for 2 1/2 hours straight. Their notes are very incoherent and not easy to understand and they create their own set of exams…Avoid these professors.Expect to be independent in your learning…or join a club with a whole bunch of other students to learn with.<:food:>Bale (Vietnamese)Cafeteria - Burgers, Fries, Pizzas, Japanese Bentos, Sushi, and different plate specials. Jamba Juice, Subway, StarbucksParadise Palms - Panda Express, Dominos, L & L Barbeque etc.The food here is "fairly decent" with a wide variety of cuisines ranging from Asian to American food. It is also expensive as hell to eat expect to spend on average around 7-10 dollars a meal. If you want to be a penny pincher you can probably get a mini plate for 5 bucks. and bring your own drink.<:overall CAMPUS FEEL:> From my experience most of the buildings were old and falling apart. During my later years at UH they put up a ton of construction board walls and it basically became a construction site. UH is a state funded school. Our state system had just appointed a whole row of democrats within office I am pretty sure our tax paying dollars are going to nicely renovated dorms and new buildings within the school campus. So for you freshmen you folks get to enjoy newer campus features within 2014-2015.<:conclusion:>Would you attend this school all over again?I probably would not have attended Shidler college of business. Most of the other schools on campus consist of different types of people though. Shidler college of business is infested with self-absorbed spoiled children that act like they are better than you. The social scene is horrible at the business school. I have had greater success within the other departments on campus and most of the students are fairly down to earth and kind. If anything I would opt to go to a different school with more prestige. The education and training that you would receive at this school is honestly not very well presented. The name and reputation behind this school is also not very valuable. If you went to UH to become an oceanographer, environmentalist, tourism / hotel management , and medical related then your degree would be very valuable beecause these are the areas that this school is literally known for.Tourism/Travel Industry/Hotel - Hawaii's economy literally thrives off of tourism. Waikiki is the cornerstone of where Oahu makes all the money. Getting into this major opens up tons of job opportunities in the future within the hotels down in Waikiki.Oceanography, environmentalist - UH one of the best schools to practice this major.Medical - Lots of old rich people retire in Hawaii and are usually in need of medical services.
