I don't think Walden faculty post positive comments on this board. But I do think the Walden University marketing department does. Many of the positive posts do not sound at all the way a student would, even if they are happy with the program they are in. They sound like the brochures the school sends out. Because Walden is a for profit university, they do not want anyone to not attend the school based on a bad review posted by a dissatisfied student on this or similar sites. I am sure they monitor their rating, and with a few manufactured positive comments they can neutralize the real negative ones. People who are dissatisfied are 100 times more likely to post on a site like this than people who had a good experience. Walden is an okay school if you want a PhD in name only. It?s a good option for foreign students and for those who do not meet the requirements of a traditional program. You do not need to take the GRE or GMAT to get in, and you don?t have to have a very high undergraduate GPA. Walden takes anyone who applies, as long as they can pay the tuition or qualify for financial aid. It is funny to read the comments that say how Walden is a good choice for those who work full time or who have families and cannot commit to a traditional ?brick and mortar? education. But there are many ?brick and mortar? schools that offer online degrees, abd their programs are just as convenient and flexible as Walden?s. But these schools do require entrance exams and they are competitive to get in. Many schools only accept a limited number of new students each year. They don?t accept everyone who applies, but choose the best applicants. There are many online programs that do this. These are typically public universities and they are fully accredited. For profit schools like Walden get a general accreditation but often lack specific accreditation for programs, such as schools of public health or schools for nursing. It is extremely important to know if the graduate school you are applying to has been accredited in your program of study. Many employers will only validate degrees from accredited programs and schools. If you scroll through the negative postings on this and similar sites, you?ll see several posts from students who couldn?t get the jobs they wanted in their field because of the lack of accreditation at Walden. Do not be fooled by the marketing that brags Walden is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The HLC accredits both good and bad schools. There isn?t much value in that accreditation. Just know what you are getting when you apply to Walden: a degree that is in name only and that may not be recognize or accepted by professional organizations and employers in your field. If you want a quality education but cannot attend a ?brick and mortar? school because you work and/or have a family, consider an online program from a real school that is fully accredited and will provide you with a quality education and a degree you can be proud of earning.
