Major: Athletics/Training (This Major's Salary over time)
So, let me start by saying I chose this school due to the fact that I knew I'd get in. I attended community college and had a 3.5 gpa when I transferred. However, I withdrew from many classes during my time there; I figured it would be hard to get into better schools in south Texas. What a horrible mistake going to this school. I was suckered into the athletic training program by the director at the time. I wanted to go PT, but he insisted that athletic training would be a better fit. So, I pursued the AT program. Words can't describe how bad the program is. They have one professor who actually knows what he's talking about. Another professor that can't ever make it to class, and when he does, he looks like he just rolled out of bed. Lastly, they have another professor who throws things together at the last second. She contradicts almost everything the book says, gives students flawed test questions, and is more focused on her religious beliefs than actually helping students learn. She puts more thought into her class prayer than she does the material she's teaching. When she teaches, its like watching paint dry…she basically reads straight from the power point/book. I'm going to keep this short and sweet - if you're even thinking about athletic training, here are some things to consider: First, reconsider the profession entirely. Second, go to a different school. Third, don't let any ATC from UIW evaluate your son or daughter. athletic trainers are required to take the Board of Certification test to practice as an athletic trainer. This semester, 8 out of 8 students failed to pass their BOC. Similar schools in the area are handling the test fine, some have a 100% pass rate. Why is UIW lacking? Sit in on a class and you'll find out quickly.
