Non-traditional student, coming from a middle-class background. Work brought me to the New River Valley, and I decided to enroll in classes. Radford I imagine is like most mid-sized public universities: you will enjoy it as much or as little as you engage yourself. Yes there are parties, and some people imbibe too much on the weekends, but there is a very strong religious presence on campus as well. Literally hundreds of student organizations for everything from Club ice hockey to Dungeons and Dragons tournaments. Large enough school to meet someone new everyday, but also small enough see someone I know everyday on campus. Beautiful, safe, small campus. Compared to Virginia Tech down the road, you can get from one side of campus to the other in 5 minutes or less. In the warmer months, the New River Valley and the Blue Ridge mountains provide endless outdoor fun. Class sizes not too big, not too small. Every professor I have had (History department) has been at least accessible, if not downright friendly and understanding. University Staff have put a lot of effort and money into building and restoring the halls on campus and it shows. Radford- the workingman's University of Virginia, and a true bargain as the least expensive state school in the Commonwealth.
